The research paper "Performance of microfinance institutions in Europe—Does social capital matter?" authored by Annette Krauss, along with two co-authors, has been awarded the EMN Research Award 2023. The award-winning paper, published in Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, was recognized for its contributions to the field of microfinance.

The EMN Research Award is presented annually by the European Microfinance Network (EMN) to honor outstanding research work in the domain of microfinance and socio-economic development. Annette Krauss acknowledged the support received from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) during the research project.

The paper was a collaborative effort involving Gabriela Chmelikova from Mendel University in Brno, who had received a three-month research grant from the SNF to work at the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) at the University of Zurich and Ondřej Dvouletý from the Prague University of Economics and Business.
